Ulick Burke

Ceist:

50 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the value of the elements which comprise the £3.118 million for cultural projects in subhead C.2 in the 2000 Estimates; and the way this compares to the 1999 Estimates. [23716/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 50 together.

Subhead C2 of my Department's Vote is div ided into current and capital elements. The amounts in 1999 are £0.962 million for current and £5.578 million for capital respectively, totalling £6.540 million. Under Subhead C2 (current) the figure for 2000 is £1.118 million, an increase of £156,000 on the 1999 figure of £0.962 million.
Under subhead C2 (Capital) the sum of £5.578 million in 1999 included provision for expenditure in respect of a number of infrastructural projects, including the fitting out of the new facilities at Dublin Castle for the Chester Beatty Library, that will be completed this year or early next year. For the year 2000 a sum of £2.0 million has been provided under the same subhead C2 (Capital) to permit the completion of certain existing projects and commencement of other capital projects.
