Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Archaeological Sites.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

289 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, she has to carry out an excavation or investigation of the historic site at Brussellstown, Baltinglass, County Wicklow; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24406/99]

Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, has no plans to carry out an excavation or investigation of the archaeological complex at Brussellstown, Baltinglass, County Wicklow. However, the Deputy may wish to note that this site was discovered in 1992 and reported in Archaeology Ireland magazine. Further investigations have since been carried out at this location and were published in an article in Wicklow Archaeology and History Volume 1, by County Wicklow Archaeological Society, in 1998.
