Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

342 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if Fitzgibbon Street Garda station, Dublin 1, has the third highest throughput in the State; his views on whether the station is in need of complete refurbishment, modern facilities for medical examinations and assistance for rape victims; if the necessary funding and a timescale for the improvements will be set; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24494/99]

As the Deputy knows, the divisional headquarters was recently moved from Fitzgibbon Street Garda station to the newly built Store Street. This relieved pressure at Fitzgibbon Street. I am aware, nevertheless, that Fitzgibbon Street is in need of refurbishment, but it will have to take its place on the Garda building and maintenance programmes in that regard.

In the medium term, approval has been granted for redecoration and minor repairs to Fitzgibbon Street Garda station.
