654 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who was offered employment was not released to take up this employment; if he was injured in prison; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1320/00]
I authorised weekly renewable temporary release from Tuesday, 25 January 2000 for the person referred to by the Deputy for the purposes of taking up employment. The authenticity of the offer of employment had to be verified and this resulted in a delay in finalising this matter.
The person referred to claimed to have slipped and hit his head in his cell on Wednesday, 15 December. He was taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up. He was discharged the same day and returned to the prison.
