Written Answers. - Semi-State Sector.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

148 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will amend the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1988, to ensure that worker directors can sit on the board of Aer Lingus following its flotation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Ceist:

149 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the position regarding worker directors continuing to sit on boards of public companies privatised in the context of current partnership talks; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1229/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 148 and 149 together.

My Department has responsibility for the operation of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Acts, 1977 and 1988. These Acts confer the right to workers in the State enterprises, named in the Schedules to the Acts, including Aer Lingus, to elect worker directors to the board of the company.

The proposed flotation of any state company and related issues are a matter for the relative Minister.
