Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

52 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has completed a marine survey in respect of the Killala sewerage scheme; if a report on this survey has been submitted to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the findings of the report. [2029/00]

My Department has received no application from Mayo County Council to carry out a marine survey in relation to the Killala sewerage scheme or for a foreshore licence in relation thereto. Such a survey would be a matter for the county council to arrange in preparing the necessary environmental impact statement for such projects.

I would urge the council to engage in pre-planning consultations with the foreshore section of my Department before bringing any proposed sewerage works to the stage where the choice of an unsuitable location for the discharge pipe or less than optimum site selection may result in additional and otherwise avoidable costs being incurred by the council.
