Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

103 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will put in place a scheme to encourage greater take-up, particularly by the elderly, of the flu vaccine programme. [2101/00]

The arrangements for the provision of influenza vaccination for at-risk persons in the general medical service are a matter for the health boards in the first instance. In 1998 and 1999, on behalf of the health boards, the Office for Health Gain developed significant publicity campaigns to inform the public of the advisability of persons at risk, especially the elderly, receiving immunisation against influenza. On the basis of experience in previous years' campaigns, the Office for Health Gain will continue to develop means of promoting the vaccine to the target population in the most effective way possible.
