Written Answers. - Companies' Merger.
This proposed merger was notified to me in June 1997 by lawyers acting for the companies concerned under the Mergers and Takeovers (Control) Acts, 1978 to 1996. Mergers which exceed the financial thresholds specified in the legislation are required to be notified to me in advance for regulatory clearance.
I cleared this proposal on 8 August 1997 without conditions, and no commitments under the Act were either sought or offered by the parties.
