Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

242 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works has received a report from Cork County Council regarding flooding at Freemount village in 1997; if funding is available for flood relief works in 2000 at this location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3212/00]

A report of the flooding which occurred in Freemount in August 1997 was submitted to the Office of Public Works by Cork County Council in November 1997. The Office of Public Work's resident engineer for the south-west region also compiled a factual report of the flood event at that time. Consulting engineers were commissioned by the Office of Public Works earlier this year and they have now submitted a draft preliminary report on the localised flood relief works necessary to reduce the extent of the flooding problem in the area. This report is currently being examined by officials at the Office of Public Works. A copy is also being forwarded to Cork County Council for its observations.
