Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Day Care Centres.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

276 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason finance was not made available by his Department in 1999 for day care centres for the elderly. [3099/00]

Capital and revenue funds were made available to health agencies by my Department in 1999 in respect of new day care centres for older people. Examples of capital funding were Finglas, Dublin 11, and Clarecastle, County Clare, while new revenue funding went to day care centres in Drombanna and Cappamore in County Limerick, Limerick city, Thurles, Clarecastle, Rathmore in County Kerry and Mallow, Bandon and Castletownbere in County Cork.

I am aware of the need to further develop the network of day care centres for older people and I intend to carry this out as part of the capital programme for older people under the national development plan. In this connection, additional revenue funding has been allocated in the current year towards the development of day care services for older people.
