Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Voluntary Organisations.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

311 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children the action, if any, he will take to ensure that there is a continuation of services provided by an organisation (details supplied) which is currently facing a financial crisis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3390/00]

Funding for voluntary organisations is mainly provided through the health boards. Organisations may apply directly to their local health board for funding or alternatively they may apply to my Department for lottery funding.

The Eastern Health Board has provided limited funding to this organisation in the past but does not do so at present. However, I understand that representatives of the board met with representatives of this organisation in late 1999. At this meeting the board indicated that in order to consider funding they would require a detailed submission on the services provided and the links envisaged with the board. The organisation has not provided this submission to date.

The other health boards have indicated that they do not currently have an application for funding from the organisation in question. No lottery application has been made to my Department.
