Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Audits.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

320 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason 1997 and 1998 accounts for Wicklow County Council have not been audited; the explanation of the local authorities auditor on the reason for the delay; the number of local authorities in this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2985/00]

Finalisation of the 1997 audit for Wicklow County Council awaits consideration and decision by the local government auditor concerned on a formal objection lodged in relation to expenditure incurred during the year in question. This matter is currently being examined by the local government audit service. The 1997 and 1998 audits are being carried out concurrently.

New Ross Urban District Council is the only other local authority in respect of which audits for both 1997 and 1998 have yet to be completed.
