Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - One Stop Shop Initiative.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

337 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay in providing finance for the one stop shop for Kildare County Council at Maynooth, County Kildare; if he is awaiting details from the council in relation to the proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3240/00]

Total funding of £500,000 was identified for allocation to Kildare County Council over 1998-99 as part of my Department's overall funding towards the one-stop shop initiative. This was in respect of a proposed project in Maynooth. However, the council was not in a position to draw down the funding because of a planned major redevelopment of the council's headquartering arrangements.

The site for the new headquarters has been identified on the outskirts of Naas and negotiations for acquisition are currently being finalised. A working group has been put in place by the manager, including a representative group of elected members, to develop functional and operational plans for the new offices and also for ancillary local offices. One stop shop facilities will be part of this process.
