Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

John Gormley

Ceist:

390 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the decision to deport a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 will be reconsidered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3296/00]

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

395 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a person (details supplied) has received notice that she may be deported; if he will allow this person to remain in the country on humanitarian grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3406/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 390 and 395 together.

The person referred to arrived in the State in October 1997 and claimed political asylum. Her application was refused in January 1999 and this decision was upheld by the appeals authority in May 1999. An application for humanitarian leave to remain in the State was submitted in June 1999 and, since this predated the implementation of the Immigration Act, 1999, the person referred to was given the opportunity to make further representations or submit any new information which would assist her in her application for leave to remain. I understand that further representations have been received recently and these are under consideration at present.

When a decision has been reached in her case, I will advise the Deputies and the person referred to of the outcome.
