94 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has for decentralisation of decision making by his Department regarding the school building programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3253/00]
The building unit of my Department provides capital funding for the provision of educational facilities. While there are no immediate plans to further devolve responsibility for the disbursement of capital funds from the building unit, I draw the Deputy's attention to the devolved grant scheme for minor works that operates at primary school level. This is an annual grant paid to all primary schools which is designed to meet expenditure of a capital nature and may, to a large extent, be spent at the discretion of the school.
