Vol. 514 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

140 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the grounds for the refusal of an application made by an association (details supplied) in County Cork for a grant from national lottery funding for the construction of a kitchen for the meals on wheels service in the parish. [4474/00]

I would like to inform the Deputy that there is a set protocol in place for processing applications for national lottery grants. When an application is received in my Department it is registered in the finance unit and forwarded to the relevant services division for their assessment, evaluation and recommendation. All applications are then considered in the context of the recommendation and the overall level of funds available.

The application referred to by the Deputy was recommended for a grant by the services division. However, the number of applications received in 1999 far exceeded the available resources and it was not possible to assist in this particular case during 1999. The organisation was informed of this and advised that they may apply for a grant from the 2000 national lottery allocation if funding for this project is still required.
