198 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 317 of 3 June 1998, the pilot study, which was due to commence in 1998 in order to determine the optimum specifications for a dust extraction system at schools, has taken place; the schools at which this pilot study was undertaken; the results obtained and the general policy decisions he has taken as a result of this study; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A pilot project is under way at present to analyse the effectiveness of integral dust extraction systems in meeting the needs of second level schools. The evaluation report on this pilot project is expected by the end of April 2000.

The project is being conducted in the following schools: St. McDara's community college, Wellington Lane, Templogue; Killinarden community school, Dublin; Deansrath community college, New Nangor Road, Clondalkin; St. Kevin's community college, Fonthill Road, Clondalkin; Lucan community school; Meanscoil an Clochair, Kilbeggan, County Westmeath; Bishopstown community school, Cork; Douglas community school, Cork; Colaiste an Spiorad Naomh, Bishopstown, Cork; Mayfield community school, Cork; Dunmore community school, County Galway; Davitt College, Castlebar, County Mayo.
