180 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a member of the Oireachtas can be appointed to a position of chairman of a special policy committee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5408/00]
There is no statutory prohibition on a member of the Oireachtas being a chair of a strategic policy committee. The forthcoming local government Bill will provide for the elimination of the dual national and local mandate from the next local elections in 2004.
