Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Tom Enright

Ceist:

224 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of psychologists in primary schools at 1 February in each of the years from 1998 to date. [5655/00]

There were 13 psychologists working in primary schools on 1 February 1998, 26 psychologists on 1 February 1999 and 24 psychologists on 1 February 2000. The Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission has now completed the process of selecting additional suitably qualified psychologists, who will take up their posts in two stages. It is hoped that the first group will begin to take up their posts during the current school term and that the number of psychologists working in primary schools will be significantly increased by the beginning of the next school year.
