Ceist:

217 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the consultancies, work groups and specialist groups employed for carrying out studies in his Department; when these groups were established; when their reports are expected and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5788/00]

The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the consultancies, work groups and specialist groups currently employed by my Department to carry out studies is set out in the following table.

Goodbody Economic Consultants

A consultation group – representative of ESRI, IBEC, the EPA Earthwatch, UCD, the Departments of the Environment and Local Government, Finance, Enterprise Trade and Employment, Public Enterprise and Agriculture Food and Rural Development – was established to examine and advise the Minister for the Environment and Local Government on the options for greenhouse gas emissions trading, both domestically and in the context of developing international and EU requirements, and to offer advice on the Irish position on international trading as required. Goodbody Economic Consultants have been engaged to assist in the completion of the final report.

National Water Audit: This study comprises, inter alia, an assessment of the estimated 120 public supplies serving ‘population equivalents' of more than 5,000 which have not yet been the subject of separate studies. The aim of the study is to provide a detailed inventory of water resources and to identify the extent of water loss in each system, the existing demand/supply situation and the most appropriate way of providing any additional capital required.

Review of the Greater Dublin Water Supply Strategic Study, carried out by Generale des Eaux Ireland Ltd. The report of this study, which was published in 1996, assessed the existing water supply in the greater Dublin region and projected the works and investments that would be required to meet projected demands to a standard comparable with similar international cities.
