Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Pensions.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

230 Mr. J. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reasons the local government auditor has requested a change in the way in which pensions are calculated by Carlow Urban District Council resulting in a reduction in pension for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if he will review the calculation with a view to restoring a reasonable pension to this individual. [6069/00]

The calculation of a pension for a local authority employee is a matter for the local authority concerned in accordance with the statutory provisions. The function of a local government auditor in this context is to ensure that pensions are determined correctly in accordance with the legislation and to seek to rectify errors.

I understand that the recalculation of pension in this case arose from an error on the part of the local authority.
