Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Digital Broadcasting.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

273 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will respond to the concerns expressed by TG4 and TV3 in relation to future digital transmissions (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5918/00]

Broadcasting services on digital cable networks will be accessed through the electronic programme guide – EPG. The EPG is an essential tool that will allow viewers to navigate through the array of services which will be available. Section 12 of the Broadcasting Bill, 1999, if enacted, will provide that the broadcasting commission of Ireland will regulate EPGs in so far as they relate to the provision of information about programme schedules. The purpose of this provision is to ensure that information regarding indigenous television services can be easily accessed.
