Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

100 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the plans, if any, he has for the development of a number of coarse fishing lakes in Counties Cavan and Monaghan to make them accessible for anglers who use small fishing boats and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6063/00]

Under the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999 almost £18 million was made available to ensure that coarse, game and sea angling is upgraded to the best international standards. Included in the works assisted under the measure was the improvement of access for fishing.

The Central Fisheries Board, which is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the tourism angling measure, informs me that grant aid of £336,000 was made available in respect of 14 coarse angling projects in Counties Cavan and Monaghan.

Under the new investment programme for inland fisheries currently being drawn up under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 there will be new funding opportunities for local coarse fisheries development projects to enhance the recreational amenity for anglers.
