Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Control of Medicines.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

181 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Health and Children if the central pharmacy for the Eastern Regional Health Authority located at St. Mary's Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, has the appropriate licences to operate; if so, if he will give details in this regard; if not, the reason this is the case; the plans, if any, he has to remedy the situation; the length of time the situation has existed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6715/00]

The Eastern Health Board, now the Eastern Regional Health Authority, holds all the neces sary licences and registrations required under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, 1977 and 1984, for the lawful possession and supply of controlled drugs under those Acts from the central pharmacy. I understand that an application for a licence under the Medical Preparations (Wholesale Licences) Regulations, 1993-6 is currently under consideration by the Irish Medicines Board and that a response is expected shortly from the board.
