Vol. 516 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

141 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science when a school (details supplied) in County Dublin will be granted a resource teacher; if a reply to the principal's application was acknowledged; if so, the date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7224/00]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has recently approved an allocation of 12.5 hours per week resource teacher support for the school in question to cater for a number of special needs children attending the school. A full-time child care assistant post has also been recently allocated to the school to cater for children with special needs.

I understand that an up to date assessment report is currently awaited on a further child with special needs attending the school. When this report is received, my Department will consider whether an increased level of resource teacher support is required by the school.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

142 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the proposed extension to St Declan's community college, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7275/00]

County Waterford VEC has submitted a combined stage 4, detailed design, and stage 5, bill of quantities, to my Department for consideration.

A number of significant issues have been identified in this submission, which County Waterford VEC has been asked to address. On receipt of a response from County Waterford VEC the matter will be progressed as quickly as possible.
