Vol. 516 No. 2

Written Answers. - Chiropody Service.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

118 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the chiropody service which was being provided in the north Cork area by the Southern Health Board has not been available since Christmas 1999; if he will arrange to have the service re-introduced for the very many people requiring it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7335/00]

The provision of chiropody services in the north Cork area is a matter for the Southern Health Board. The board has advised that a chiropody service, funded by it, is provided at various centres throughout north Cork. The position with regard to the service in Mallow is that it was decided some weeks ago that the particular location was not suitable for proper patient care and, as a result, arrangements are being made to obtain an alternative premises. This is taking longer than expected. However, the board has indicated that it hopes to have the service re-introduced in Mallow within two weeks. In the meantime, patients requiring attention are being given the option of obtaining the service at other centres.
