Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Diplomatic Representation.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

37 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will appoint an honorary consul in the Nova Scotia/Cape Breton areas of maritime Canada where there is a major Irish ethnic connection particularly with the south east of this country. [8484/00]

I am happy to acknowledge that the strong historical, ethnic and cultural links between the Canadian Province of Nova Scotia and Ireland justify the establishment of a Consulate there headed by an Honorary Consul. I have therefore requested the embassy in Ottawa to examine the situation and make proposals for such an appointment.
