Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Compensation Claims.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

167 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Taoiseach the amount paid in compensation claims by his Department in 1999; and the heading under which payments were made. [8893/00]

My Department made the following payments in respect of compensation claims in 1999: An exgratia payment of £20.00 was made to a member of staff towards the replacement of a pair of boots which were broken beyond repair during a fall on the main stairs in Government Buildings on 19 March 1999. During a tour of Government Buildings on 19 June 1999, a member of the public damaged her sweater by staining it with paint. A payment of £123.66 was subsequently made to her. An amount of £600 was paid in 1999 to a member of staff whose luggage went missing while on an official visit to Vienna. It is intended that this amount will be recouped from an insurance claim which is currently being processed.
