Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teleworking Scheme.

John Bruton

Ceist:

133 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance when he will introduce teleworking operations into the mainstream public service employments under his aegis in accordance with the commitment given by the Government in its Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; and if he will make a statement on the changes required in Government Departments and in each of the agencies under his aegis to fulfil this commitment by the Government. [9281/00]

My Department has had discussions with the Civil Service staff unions at the equality sub-committee of general council on the introduction of a pilot teleworking scheme in the Civil Service. The terms of a pilot scheme have been agreed with the unions and it has been decided that the pilot will operate in the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas. The purpose of the pilot is to examine on an initial small-scale basis the management, administrative and other issues associated with teleworking in the Civil Service context. It is expected that a pilot teleworking scheme will commence shortly in the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
