Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Missing Persons.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

104 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if contact will be made, as a matter of urgency, with the Government of the Netherlands in relation to the need for the police authorities to make intensive efforts in the search for an Irish person (details supplied) missing in Amsterdam. [9311/00]

I appreciate the concerns of the family of the missing person. The Irish Embassy in The Hague has been in touch with the Dutch authorities and with the Dutch police on a continuous basis since 24 February when it was informed that he was missing. The Dutch police are fully informed and their efforts to locate the man are continuing. I understand the Garda is also in contact with the Dutch police through Interpol. My Department and the embassy will maintain contact with the Dutch authorities and will continue to give every possible assistance to the family.
