Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

158 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance if he will respond favourably to an application for a motor grant for the benefit of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who has a rare genetic syndrome known as Smith McGuinness Syndrome in view of the fact he can only walk short distances. [9633/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for tax relief under the scheme was received in respect of a vehicle for the transport of the person concerned on 23 March, 2000. A letter authorising remission of vehicle registration tax in respect of a qualifying vehicle was issued on the same day and repayment of value added tax will be made when the vehicle has actually been acquired.
