Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Multi-denominational Schools.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

439 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will establish a working group with representatives of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to assist in establishing a multi-denominational second level school in Kilkenny; and if he will give information to the school regarding policy and funding in this area. [10819/00]

As a general rule, I am prepared to consider the recognition of new second-level schools having regard to such factors as the proximity and extent of existing provision in the relevant area.

The procedure for any group seeking to establish a new school would be to submit an application to my Department's planning section in Tullamore, setting out in detail the need for the school, the expected enrolments and how it is proposed to accommodate pupils pending the provision of a permanent building.
