154 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on the development of contemporary and ballet dance; the way in which development will take place in this area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11040/00]
The Arts Council launched its Arts Plan 1999-2001 in July last year. Included in the Arts Plan are initiatives for the development of dance. Under the plan the Arts Council will, inter alia, promote artistic excellence and innovation in dance through the improvement of professional formation, practice and career development of dance artists, will direct funding towards excellence and innovation in choreography and performance and will foster more recognition, acknowledgement, critical assessment and documentation of dance.
