Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

65 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of clubs and organisations for which funding was approved under the 1998 sport capital programme which have not drawn down their grants; the amount in this regard; if these monies will be re-allocated by a certain date; if so, the criteria to be used; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11506/00]

Under the 1998 sports capital programme, grants totalling £5.95 million were allocated to 246 clubs and organisations throughout the country. Of this total £3.265 million was allocated to 34 major facilities while £2.685 was allocated to 212 recreational facilities. In the case of the major facilities the grantees were given until 31 December 2000 to draw down the grants while the projects assisted under the recreational facilities were to have drawn down the grants by 30 June 1999.

All of the projects which were grant assisted under the 1998 programme and which have not yet drawn down the grants have been contacted and advised by my Department that these grants will be withdrawn unless the necessary documentation required to draw down the grant is submitted without further delay. As many of the replies are still outstanding, the specific information sought by the Deputy as to the number and value of these projects and scope, if appropriate, for reallocation is not readily available.

Outstanding commitments under the programme stood at almost £29 million at the end of 1999.
