143 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount of money allocated to Donegal County Council for the prevention of coastal erosion over the past five years; and the funding requested in 1999 and 2000. [11916/00]

Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Mr. Fahey):

The total amount allocated to Donegal County Council by my Department in the years 1995 to 1999 for coast protection works was £309,000.

The county council has sought funding in the region of £2,105,000 for a number of projects in the county in 1999 and 2000. I have already approved total funding of £245,000 for one coast protection project in the county for 2000, and I am giving further consideration to a number of other projects.
