Written Answers. - Garda Stations.
I understand that plans are advancing to convert a former schoolhouse in Rathangan to a Garda station. A sketch scheme of the proposed station is currently with the Garda authorities for agreement. It is not possible to give a timeframe for this project which will depend on overall Garda priorities and the availability of funding.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are no plans to provide a new station in Kilcullen. I understand that the existing official Garda accommodation has recently undergone major refurbishment which is almost complete.

Ceist:229 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to build a new Garda station in Castledermot, County Kildare, within the confines of the main street-square area where garda presence will have a good security effect instead of its present position outside the town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can inform the Deputy that there are no plans at present to relocate the Garda station at Castledermot. However, the cur rent station in Castledermot has been listed for major maintenance work, which will be completed in time having regard to overall Garda priorities and the availability of funding.

I can inform the Deputy that the Garda intends relocating the Garda station in Carbury to Derrinturn. The Office of Public Works is currently sourcing a suitable site in Derrinturn to facilitate this relocation.
