Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Ceist:

245 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for holding the tender for the new community school in Kenmare in his Department; when this tender is being advertised; and the reason for the delay. [11871/00]

The building project at Kenmare Community School is being conducted in two phases. Construction of phase 1 of this project commenced in January of this year.

Concerning phase 2, the full Stage 5 submission (Bill of Quantities) has recently been received from the design team. A process of eliciting interested contractors to undertake phase 2 of the project has been completed. Accordingly, a short list of suitable contractors has been drawn up. The contractors on this list will be invited to tender for phase 2. It is anticipated that this latter process will occur within the next few weeks.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

246 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the current capacity in permanent buildings of secondary schools in County Kildare which are currently awaiting approval for an extension; the existing enrolment in these schools; the additional permanent capacity sought; the current position in relation to the request for additional accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11872/00]

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available.

Should the Deputy wish to procure information in relation to any specific school or project, I shall be glad to provide same.

Ceist:

247 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in relation to the required extension to Scoil Dara post-primary school, Kilcock, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11873/00]

Approval was recently given to the managerial authorities of Scoil Dara, Kilcock to proceed to prepare a combined stage 4, detailed design, and stage 5, Bill of Quantities submission.

It is proposed that the conversion to natural gas and the installation of two new boilers to service the existing school and proposed extension will be undertaken this summer.
