Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Adult Education.

John Perry

Ceist:

33 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in publishing the White Paper on adult education; when it will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11760/00]

An extensive consultation process was engaged in following the publication of the Green Paper. This consisted of six regional seminars, a public invitation of written submissions, individual meetings with over 70 national interest groups in the educational, research, industry and social fields and a national forum on adult education in Dublin Castle on 22 September 1999.

The drafting work on the White Paper is in course of completion. In accordance with established procedure with documents of this nature, it will then be circulated to all Departments for their observations. It may be necessary to amend the draft in the light of these observations. The final version will be submitted to the Government for approval. It will be published as soon as practicable after approval has been received.
