Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Farm Partnerships.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

193 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the plans, if any, he has to facilitate the development of the partnership concept for the farming sector, having regard to the significant economic changes taking place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12397/00]

The option of establishing farm partnerships is already open to producers. Such a provision has been included in the recent milk quota regulations. However, there may be implications for such partnerships in the context of disease eradication measures, quotas, premium schemes, and other schemes depending on the exact arrangements.

I have established a working group on farming partnerships within my Department and this group has met on a number of occasions to discuss various aspects of farming in partnership in Ireland. I will consider the matter further when this group has finalised its deliberations.
