Vol. 519 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

110 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will reconsider the decision of her Department to refuse a house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal in view of the fact that she had to dispose of her former council house at a reduced price, arising out of substandard work at construction and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13944/00]

An application for a new house grant under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Acts was received in my Department in this case in May 1999.

Following a thorough examination of the case, my Department was unable to sanction a new house grant to the applicant as the new house in question was erected in substitution for an existing dwelling-house which in the opinion of my Department was suitable for the proper accommodation of the household concerned. Following a reconsideration of the case earlier this year my Department was unable to reverse this decision.
