Vol. 519 No. 4

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Service.

David Stanton

Ceist:

100 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children if, with reference to Parliamentary Question No. 98 of 5 April 2000, he will give more details of the £0.250 million that his Department is making available to the Southern Health Board in the year 2000 for the further development of its orthodontic services; the terms and conditions under which the money is going to be used; the way in which it is going to impact on the numbers waiting assessment and treatment for orthodontic services at the orthodontic clinic in St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork and in other dental clinics in Mallow and Tralee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14030/00]

The additional £250,000 was allocated to the Southern Health Board on an ongoing basis for the further development of the board's orthodontic services in accordance with the dental health action plan.

My Department is currently in discussion with the board concerning its proposals for the development of the orthodontic services and it is hoped that agreed proposals will be arrived at in the near future.
