Jackie Healy-Rae

Ceist:

128 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has satisfied himself with the conditions at St. Joseph's boys school, Rathmore, County Kerry. [14792/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 126 and 128 together.

In regard to the acquisition of a site, my Department has referred the case to the property management section of the Office of Public Works which acts as agent of my Department in relation to the acquisition of sites.

My Department is aware of the conditions at St. Joseph's and has sanctioned the provision of temporary toilets at the school until the new school is ready.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

127 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will proceed immediately with the construction of a primary school at Littlepace, near Clonee. [14791/00]

Minister for Education and Science
(Dr. Woods): My Department recently appointed a project design team and the architectural planning of the new school is under way. It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence or when the school will be open to pupils. However, every effort will be made to expedite the project through the various planning stages.
The process of acquiring the site for the new primary school is at an advanced stage and the contract of sale is with the Office of the Chief State Solicitor for approval.
