Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

223 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science when a special class for autistic children will be provided in the Listowel/Tralee area of County Kerry as promised in March 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15838/00]

Minister for Education and Science
(Dr. Woods): In December last, my Department sanctioned a special class for children with autism in Nano Nagle Special School, Listowel.
Officials of my Department are currently in discussion with the management authorities of a school in the Tralee area with a view to establishing a special class for children with autism. These discussions are expected to be concluded shortly and it is envisaged that the special class will commence in the new school year.
