Vol. 520 No. 5

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

122 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Health and Children if progress has been made in reach ing an agreement between general practitioners working with substance abusers in relation to the dispensing of methadone. [16276/00]

The provision of drug treatment services in the eastern region is the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. However, I understand that the issues in question relate to negotiations between the Eastern Regional Health Authority and general practitioners in relation to a contract for the provision of services to drug misusers in health board clinics. The management of the drug service of the authority has been in contact with representatives of the general practitioners and I understand that a meeting has been arranged for Thursday, 8 June 2000. The meeting will discuss, inter alia, pay and conditions of the doctors involved. I am assured by the authority that every effort will be made to resolve any outstanding issues.
