145 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a recommendation from the Medical Defence Union demanding a cap on Irish compensation awards for brain damaged babies; and if he will make a statement with regard to this demand. [16330/00]
At a meeting with my predecessor and the Attorney General, the Medical Defence Union and the Medical Protection Society put forward a number of suggestions for reform of the process whereby claims for personal injury arising from medical treatment are dealt with. A cap on certain elements of awards was one suggestion made.
