An estimated 770 pupils do not transfer from primary to second level schools each year based on data from the census of primary schools on those who left during the 1997-98 school year.
In addition, data from the ESRI-Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment 1998 annual school leavers' survey – December 1999 – show the following:
