Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Suicide Incidence.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

209 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the circumstances of the death of a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary by suicide while in the care of the Mid-Western Health Board; if he will have investigations made into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16607/00]

I wish to express my sympathy to the family of the young person in question who was in the care of the Mid-Western Health Board on a voluntary basis and who was at home on a planned visit when the tragedy occurred.

The Mid-Western Health Board is undertaking a full review of the board's care of the young person and I will be receiving a copy of the report as soon as the review is completed. In the meantime, I have been assured by the board that all the necessary and appropriate care and services were provided for the young person based on assessed needs.

I also understand that the board is providing the necessary support for the family to help them through their ordeal.
