Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Staffing Levels.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

52 Mr. Noonan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has satisfied herself with the resources available to the Director of Consumer Affairs to carry out the increased workload identified in the recent report; the staff available; and the length of time each of these staff are working in the directorate. [16538/00]

Nora Owen

Ceist:

97 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, arising out of the recent report by the Director of Consumer Affairs, she has satisfied herself with the resources available to the Director to carry out the increased workload identified in the report; the staff now available; and the length of time each of these staff are working in the Directorate. [16623/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 52 and 97 together.

The Director of Consumer Affairs is an independent, statutory office-holder. I am confident she would ensure that any matter concerning resources would be raised with my Department as she considers appropriate.

There is a total of 53 posts in the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs, ODCA. The length of time served by current staff members varies from recent recruits who have served for a number of months to those who have served ten years or more. The staff of the ODCA are civil servants who are attached to my Department and, as such, they can move to and apply for other positions within the Department and the wider Civil Service.
