Vol. 522 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Yield.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

98 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the number of private cars registered in the State for each of the years 1968 to 1999; the amount of revenue received from fuel tax, including VAT; the amount of import duty or vehicle registration tax for each of the years from 1968 to 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18618/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the information sought, to the extent that it is available, is as set out in the following tables.

I assume the reference to "import duty" relates solely to excise duty on motor cars.
