Ceist:

176 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide details of the number of health board nursing home beds nationally and in the Dublin area; the number of subventions paid; the number of contract beds provided nationally and in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18775/00]

The number of public and private beds for the care of older people as at March 2000 has been supplied by the health boards and the Eastern Regional Health Authority and is set out in the following table. The figure for public beds includes beds available for assessment/rehabilitation, respite care, extended care, treatment of the elderly mentally infirm, convalescent care and welfare beds. Details of the number of contracted beds as at September 1999 are also set out in the following table.
